Modern Political Ideas Example
Modern Political Ideas Example Modern Political Ideas â" Assignment Example > Christian democracyIntroductionAt a point in history Protestants and Catholics fought to a standstill. However some of the people still believe that the church and the state can be combined. The ruling parties in some countries are Christian democratic. However, their power remains within the constitution of their country. The issues they champion root from the Christian ideology their party is founded on. Researchers speculate the loss in power of Christian democracies especially on the European continent. The declining power comes at a time of intensified research on the Christian democracies. Christian democracies found their laws, opinions and actions on Christian values. The nineteenth century brought the birth of contemporary Christian parties. As the idea of liberalism popularised, the Catholic Church feared the loss of control of its flock mainly by education. Therefore it formed a party to challenge the liberal party. Two issues evidently resulted from the formation of th e party. The mixture of Christianity and politics remained challenging. Secondly, the Christian approach to politics attracted some individuals. Christian democracy effectively occupied its place after the Second World War. After the war in Europe the Christian parties had a role in repairing the countries. They spearheaded the formation of European Union and helped launch new party systems. By welfare and social security provision they managed to revive the economy. They based the social security on traditional families. Fascism had discredited the traditional nationalist Europeans right. Christian democrats therefore paraded themselves as ant totalitarians and despised godless communism. They branded fascism as a form of materialism and with their spiritualism provided a solution of the past. Several Christian democratic parties have emerged since then. Most Christian democratic parties operate with independence from the founder the Catholic Church. Their success was evident for a period of time. The Italian Christian democracy adopted the labour party as their replica. France, Georges Bidault described Christian democracy as âto govern in the centre, and pursue, by methods of the right, the policies of the left. The Christian democratic are viewed as a third option parallel to socialism and liberalism. Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium are countries in Europe that have embraced Christian democracy. South America has seen countries such as Venezuela, Chile, Costa Rica and El Salvador have electoral success. During the nineteenth century saw the liberalist suffer great electoral losses. Public opinion championed liberalism however they felt the need for Christian values to be the centre of their communities. However it did not last long. For instance; in Germany and Italy, a deal was; struck between the defenders of religion and the economic liberals. The morality and the market had to coexist. The compromise applied for a long time after that. There are fundamental principles that govern Christian principles. This include Christian fundamental values can be achieved by the appreciation that free and constitutional democracy is the only political system. Communism and socialism seemed to be forceful revolutions as opposed to slow improvements to achieve change. Striving for individual happiness and satisfactions well as economic and political self realisation. Responsibility of others and oneself. This combines liberalism, Christian social ethics and the rule of law. The principle of subsidiary. This involved the recognition of shared responsibility and the subjection of authoritarian paternalism to personal responsibility and decentralisation. Submission to the commandment of charity and political reason by solidarity with the weak in society. This required the people to care for the deprived and unfortunate in society.

Becoming A Career As A Physician - 924 Words
Patient was a ten-year-old black male who presented to the Emergency Department with complaints of suicidal ideations. With the case occurring during one of my first few shifts as a medical scribe, I was still new to patient and doctor encounter. They talked about subjects ranging from the patientââ¬â¢s home life and even to his favorite athletes. The doctor stayed in the room until the patient finally smiled and thanked him for listening. This was an outstanding, compassionate moment for my doctor. As a doctor, he fully took the time to respect the patientââ¬â¢s desire for help despite the recognizable dissimilarities in their age, race, and social economic status. Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd ) - 1569 Words
Over the past 40 years, the rate at which diagnoses for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) occur has seen a dramatic growth in numbers. With diagnoses for ASD increasing, more siblings are also being found to have grown up with a sister or brother with autism spectrum disorder. Previous studies have shown no consensus on whether or not siblings of persons with ASD are at risk for negative effects. However, patterns of anxiety among these siblings are being examined to see if characteristics of a child with autism spectrum disorder and their parents can predict anxiety. Anxiety disorders are one of the most common psychological disorders found in childhood and research has shown that they can have a negative impact on a childââ¬â¢s current and future development if left untreated (Cartwright-Hatton et al. 2006; Johnson et al. 2000; Visu-Petra et al. 2010; Vitiello and Waslick 2010). About 80% of children with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder have one or more concurrent anxiety disorders (de Bruin et al., 2007). Research suggests that they may be a link between anxiety disorders and impairments in daily living skills (Drahota et al., 2010). Anxiety does not just put children with ASD at risk but also has an impact on family members as well. In a study done by Shivers, Deisenroth, Taylor (2013), they hypothesized that siblings of individuals with ASD would have higher rates of anxiety than normal and from these siblings, girls would have higher levels of anxiety than boysShow MoreRelatedAutism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd )1722 Words à |à 7 Pagesin every sixty-eight births are diagnosed with the Autism spectrum disorder in other words (ASD), which is about one percent of the worldââ¬â¢s population. Purpose of College Education Free Essays
There is no doubt that education plays an important role in peopleââ¬â¢s lives. At a very young age, people begin spending time in school to acquire the basic things necessary in life including reading and writing. They progress to more complicated lessons as time goes on. We will write a custom essay sample on Purpose of College Education or any similar topic only for you Order Now However, the most important education that a person can receive would probably be tertiary education. This is also known as college education where people are able to pick an area or field that they want to specialize in. The primary purpose of a college education would be for a person to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge in his or her chosen career and become fully prepared for the real world. For the students, a college education is a means of pursuing their dreams and ambitions in life (Borade, 2009). There are many people who believe that having a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree will present more opportunities for them. Although there are several individuals who have become successful even without finishing their college education, it is still more effective if people graduate from college, especially if education is all that they have. Nowadays, companies and employers prefer to hire individuals who have college degrees and would pay even more if they have masterals or doctorate degrees. Having a college degree increases individualsââ¬â¢ chances of being hired in the corporate world rather than having average and low-paying jobs. ââ¬Å"For a parent, the very purpose of a good college education is to enable the child to probe the realms of thought and access real higher learningâ⬠(Borade, 2009). Parents only want the best for their children. They want to see their children succeed in everything that they do. They push their children to finish college because they know that this will benefit their children in the future. They want their children to maximize their full potential and bring out the best that they can be in life through academic learning. Academic institutions also plays a role in the academic lives of students. Their purpose is to provide the best educational experience to the students enrolled in their campus. For them, the purpose of college education is for them to act out their roles as providers of education. Without them, people will have nowhere to go to receive education. The staff and the institution greatly help students mold themselves into the best individuals that they can be in the future. However, it is important to note that not all people believe in a college education. These people think that everyone can become successful even without finishing tertiary education. This is not hard to believe since there are numerous college drop outs that have emerged to become successful in their respective fields. Still, people, especially young students should not rely on this information and try their best to excel on their own. They should keep in mind that not all people are lucky and fortunate enough to attend college. While they have the chance, they should make the most out of it and make sure that they benefit from the learning process. As stated above, the primary purpose of a college education is to prepare the students for the real world. However, there are many who decide to ââ¬Å"rush through their college years without taking the time to explore avenues of thought that could broaden their perspectivesâ⬠(Nguyen, n. d. ). Students should always remember that they can only experience education the fullest way when they take the time to absorb everything that they are being taught. They will not be prepared if they take it too fast or too slow. Thus, the true purpose of college education will be defeated. How to cite Purpose of College Education, Papers

The Status of Women in India Essay Example For Students
The Status of Women in India Essay November 28, 2000 English 101The Status of Women in IndiaWith a population of over one billion, India is the world first most populous country. Of that astronomical number, 200 million are women who live in poverty (Vinayak 11). The origin of the Indian belief of appropriate Indian female behavior can be traced to the rules laid down by a young girl, by a young woman, or even by an aged one. They believe in the notion that everything an Indian woman engages in must be done independently, even in her own house. The primary issue to be addressed is that all women in India are struggling with everyday survival such as lack of contraception administration, lack of education, being overworked, and being powerless towards men. We will write a custom essay on The Status of Women in India specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Over 70 percent of Indias population currently derives their livelihood from land resources, which includes 84 percent of the economically active women (Vinayak 11). India is one of the few countries where males significantly outnumber females, and this imbalance has increased over time. From global perspective, Indian accounts for 19 percent of all births and 27 percent of all maternal deaths (Neft 58). There seems to be a consensus that higher female mortality between ages one and five and high maternal mortality rates result in a deficit of females in the population. Of the 15 million baby girls born in India each year, nearly 25 percent will not live to see their 15th birthday. Although India was the first country to announce an official family planning program in 1952, its population grew from 361 million in 1951 to 844 million in 1991. Indias total fertility rate of 3.8 births per woman can be considered moderate by world standards, but the sheer magnitude of population increase has resulted in such a feeling of urgency that containment of population growth is listed as one of the six most important objectives in the Eighth Five-Year Plan (Rajan B2). Surviving through a normal life cycle is an India womans greatest challenge in India. The origin of the Indian belief of appropriate female behavior by a young girl, by a young woman, or even by an aged one, is that nothing must be done independently, even in her own house. During her childhood, a female must be subject to her father, in youth to her husband, when her lord is dead to her sons; a woman must never be independent (Carr 12). The most common problems were the lack of basic amenities such as food, water, fuel, fodder and health facilities. In addition, the deterioration of the natural environment and the fact that many of their traditional occupations were no longer viable were conditions that were making it increasingly hard for women to continue sustaining their families, as they had done in the past. Since 1970, the use of modern contraceptive methods has risen from 10 percent to 40 percent, with great variance between northern and southern India. The most striking aspect of contraceptive use in India is the predominance of sterilization, which accounts for more than 85 percent of total modern contraception use, with female sterilization accounting for 90 percent of all sterilizations. In most Indian families, a daughter is viewed as a liability, and she is conditioned to believe that she is inferior and subordinate to men (Rajan B2). Sons are idolized and celebrated. May you be the mother of a hundred sons is a common Hindu wedding blessing. Womens health is harmed by lack of access to and poor quality of reproductive service. The practice of breast-feeding female children for shorter periods of time reflects the strong desire for sons (Bunch 27). If women are particularly anxious to have a male child, they may deliberately try to become pregnant again as soon as possible after a female is born. Conversely, women may consciously seek to avoid another pregnancy after the birth of a male child in order to give maximum attention to the new son. .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a , .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .postImageUrl , .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a , .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:hover , .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:visited , .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:active { border:0!important; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:active , .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0f8aedb3362ed1237ab06eac1226d34a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Conrad EssayIndias maternal mortality rates in rural areas are among the highest in the world. On National Prejudices, by Oliver Goldsmith - Classic Essays
On National Prejudices, by Oliver Goldsmith - Classic Essays Irish poet, essayist, and dramatist Oliver Goldsmith is best known for the comic play She Stoops to Conquer, the long poem The Deserted Village, and the novel The Vicar of Wakefield. In his essay On National Prejudices (first published in the British Magazine, August 1760), Goldsmith argues that it is possible to loveà ones own country without hating the natives of other countries. Compare Goldsmiths thoughts on patriotism with Max Eastmans extended definition in What Is Patriotism? and with Alexis de Tocquevilles discussion of patriotism in Democracy in America (1835). On National Prejudices by Oliver Goldsmith As I am one of that sauntering tribe of mortals, who spend the greatest part of their time in taverns, coffee houses, and other places of public resort, I have thereby an opportunity of observing an infinite variety of characters, which, to a person of a contemplative turn, is a much higher entertainment than a view of all the curiosities of art or nature. In one of these, my late rambles, I accidentally fell into the company of half a dozen gentlemen, who were engaged in a warm dispute about some political affair; the decision of which, as they were equally divided in their sentiments, they thought proper to refer to me, which naturally drew me in for a share of the conversation. Amongst a multiplicity of other topics, we took occasion to talk of the different characters of the several nations of Europe; when one of the gentlemen, cocking his hat, and assuming such an air of importance as if he had possessed all the merit of the English nation in his own person, declared that the Dutch were a parcel of avaricious wretches; the French a set of flattering sycophants; that the Germans were drunken sots, and beastly gluttons; and the Spaniards proud, haughty, and surly tyrants; but that in bravery, generosity, clemency, and in every other virtue, the English excelled all the world. This very learned and judicious remark was received with a general smile of approbation by all the companyall, I mean, but your humble servant; who, endeavoring to keep my gravity as well as I could, I reclined my head upon my arm, continued for some timeà in a posture of affected thoughtfulness, as if I had been musing on something else, and did not seem to attend to the subject of conversation; hoping by these means to avoid the disagreeable necessity of explaining myself, and thereby depriving the gentlemen of his imaginary happiness. But my pseudo-patriot had no mind to let me escape so easily. Not satisfied that his opinion should pass without contradiction, he was determined to have it ratified by the suffrage of every one in the company; for which purpose addressing himself to me with an air of inexpressible confidence, he asked me if I was not in the same way of thinking. As I am never forward in giving my opinion, especially when I have reason to believe that it will not be agreeable; so, when I am obliged to give it, I always hold it for a maxim to speak my real sentiments. I therefore told him that, for my own part, I should not have ventured to talk in such a peremptory strain, unless I had made the tour of Europe, and examined the manners of these several nations with great care and accuracy: that, perhaps, a more impartial judge would not scruple to affirm that the Dutch were more frugal and industrious, the French more temperate and polite, the Germans more hardy and patient of labour and fatigue, and the Spaniards more staid and sedate, than the English; who, though undoubtedly brave and generous, were at the same time rash, headstrong, and impetuous; too apt to be elated with prosperity, and to despond in adversity. I could easily perceive that all of the company began to regard me with a jealous eye before I had finished my answer, which I had no sooner done, than the patriotic gentleman observed, with a contemptuous sneer, that he was greatly surprised how some people could have the conscience to live in a country which they did not love, and to enjoy the protection of a government, to which in their hearts they were inveterate enemies. Finding that by this modest declaration of my sentiments, I had forfeited the good opinion of my companions, and given them occasion to call my political principles in question, and well knowing that it was in vain to argue with men who were so very full of themselves, I threw down my reckoning and retired to my own lodgings, reflecting on the absurd and ridiculous nature of national prejudice and prepossession. Philosphers of Antiquity Among all the famous sayings of antiquity, there is none that does greater honour to the author, or affords greater pleasure to the reader (at least if he be a person of a generous and benevolent heart) than that of the philosopher, who, being asked what countryman he was, replied that he was a citizen of the world. How few there are to be found in modern times who can say the same, or whose conduct is consistent with such a profession! We are now become so much Englishmen, Frenchmen, Dutchmen, Spaniards, or Germans, that we are no longer citizens of the world; so much the natives of one particular spot, or members of one petty society, that we no longer consider ourselves as the general inhabitants of the globe, or members of that grand society which comprehends the whole human kind. Did these prejudices prevail only among the meanest and lowest of the people, perhaps they might be excused, as they have few, if any, opportunities of correcting them by reading, traveling, or conversing with foreigners; but the misfortune is, that they infect the minds, and influence the conduct even of our gentlemen; of those, I mean, who have every title to this appellation but an exemption from prejudice, which, however, in my opinion, ought to be regarded as the characteristical mark of a gentleman: for let a mans birth be ever so high, his station ever so exalted, or his fortune ever so large, yet if he is not free from national and other prejudices, I should make bold to tell him, that he had a low and vulgar mind, and had no just claim to the character of a gentleman. And in fact, you will always find that those are most apt to boast of national merit, who have little or no merit of their own to depend on, than which, to be sure, nothing is more natural: the slender vine twi sts around the sturdy oak for no other reason in the world but because it has notà strengthà sufficient to support itself. Should it be alleged inà defenseà of national prejudice, that it is the natural and necessary growth of love to our country, and that therefore the former cannot be destroyed without hurting the latter, I answer, that this is a grossà fallacyà and delusion. That it is the growth of love to our country, I will allow; but that it is the natural and necessary growth of it, I absolutely deny. Superstition and enthusiasm too are the growth of religion; butà who everà took it in his head to affirm that they are the necessary growth of this noble principle? They are, if you will, the bastard sprouts of this heavenly plant; but not its natural and genuine branches, and may safely enough be lopped off, without doing any harm to the parent stock; nay, perhaps, till once they are lopped off, this goodly tree can never flourish in perfect health and vigour. Citizen of the World Is it not very possible that I may love my own country, without hating the natives of other countries? that I may exert the most heroic bravery, the most undaunted resolution, in defending its laws and liberty, without despising all the rest of the world as cowards and poltroons? Most certainly it is: and if it were notBut why need I suppose what is absolutely impossible?but if it were not, I must own, I should prefer the title of the ancient philosopher, namely, a citizen of the world, to that of an Englishman, a Frenchman, a European, or to any other appellation whatever. The Wind Tapped Like a Tired Man by Emily Dickinson
The Wind Tapped Like a Tired Man by Emily Dickinson The enigmatic Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) saw only ten of her poems published while she was alive. Most of her work, more than 1,000 poems with their odd capitalization, liberal use of em dashes and iambic pentameter rhyming structure, was published after her death. But her works have helped to shape modern poetry. Life of Emily Dickinson Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, Dickinson was a reclusive figure, who took to wearing all white clothing and stayed confined to her home later in life. Whether she was eccentric or suffering from some kind of anxiety disorder is a matter hotly debated among Dickinson scholars. She did not live her entire life at her familys Amherst home; she spent a year at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary but left before completing a degree, and visited Washington, D.C. with her father when he served in Congress.Ã Dickinsons body of work also included correspondence with friends. Many of these letters contained original poems.Ã After her death, her sister Lavinia collected Emilys vast collection of writing and attempted to organize it. Although early editors tried to normalize Dickinsons writing, taking out the unusual punctuation and random capitalized words, later versions of her work restored it to its unique glory, em dashes and all.Ã Emily Dickinsons Poetry With titles like Because I Could Not Stop for Death, and A Narrow Fellow in the Grass, its clear that Dickinsons poetry has a foreboding undertone.Ã Many academics believe that all of Dickinsons poems can be interpreted to be about death, some overtly, some with more subtle turns of phrase. Indeed, Dickinsons correspondence shows she was troubled by several deaths of people she was close to; a school friend died very young of typhoid fever, another of a brain disorder. Its not outside the realm of possibility that young Emily withdrew from social life because she was deeply affected by her losses. Questions for Study of The Wind Tapped Like a Tired Man Is this an example of a Dickinson poem in where she appears to be writing about one thing (the wind) but is actually writing about something else? In this poem, does the wind represent a man, or does it represent an existential fear of death, ever present and able to blow in and out as it pleases? Why is the man tired? Here is the full text of Emily Dickinsons poem The Wind Tapped Like a Tired Man The wind tapped like a tired man,And like a host, Come in,I boldly answered; entered thenMy residence withinA rapid, footless guest,To offer whom a chairWere as impossible as handA sofa to the air.No bone had he to bind him,His speech was like the pushOf numerous humming-birds at onceFrom a superior bush. His countenance a billow,His fingers, if he pass,Let go a music, as of tunesBlown tremulous in glass. He visited, still flitting; Then, like a timid man,Again he tappedt was flurriedlyAnd I became alone.
